Grade Span Maps

Grades K-2

Grounded in the CCSS, our K-2 Maps provide teachers with the tools they need to set students on the road to discovering evidence and making informed arguments while building their knowledge of the world around them. Students are immersed in poetry, sounds, and letters and learn about animal life cycles, the continents, great Americans, and more. The Maps include detailed pacing guides of milestone goals for reading instruction (written by an author of the CCSS reading standards) and guidance on making interdisciplinary connections.

Grades 3-5

Our Maps for grades 3-5 provide teachers with tools to facilitate exploration of increasingly complex literature and nonfiction. In accordance with the CCSS, students have numerous opportunities to articulate a central idea and cite evidence for their thinking in short essays, presentations, and class discussions. The sample lesson plans in these and all grades include guidance on differentiated instruction, illustrating how the same text can be taught effectively to ALL students. The Maps continue to provide guidance on making interdisciplinary connections.

Grades 6-8

Our middle school Maps guide teachers as they challenge students to reach more challenging standards. Utilizing diverse texts, the Maps introduce new topics and reintroduce old ones in greater depth. In response to the demands of the new CCSS, students learn to use academic language to write cogent arguments and analyses of literature and informational texts. The Maps provide numerous opportunities for students to work collaboratively and to participate in class discussions.
